Dr. Eleftherios Klerides
President of the Comparative Education Society in Europe and an editor of the Society’s journal European Education, Eleftherios Klerides is an associate professor in Comparative and International Education at the University of Cyprus, where he co-ordinates the Erasmus Mundus MA Programme in Education Policies for Global Development. He also serves as an adjunct professor of Education Policy at the Open University of Cyprus. He also serves as president of the Baccalaureate Committee during the Cyprus Presidency of the European SchoolsBefore returning to Cyprus and joining its very first university, Eleftherios had worked at the UCL Institute of Education in London and the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He has also been a visiting scholar at the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research in Braunschweig, an honorary research fellow of the Education and Human Rights in Diversity Research Unit of the North-West University in South Africa, a visiting professor at the Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg, and a consultant for the World Bank, UNESCO, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Religion of Greece and the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth of Cyprus.
He has published widely in the areas of transnational policy and governance, the transfer of knowledge across borders, and issues of identity and citizenship education. Currently his major concern is the impact of shifting international political and economic relations on schooling and education policy. Eleftherios Klerides holds a Ph.D. from the UCL Institute of Education.
